Though, as we all know, not all beaches in Australia are dog friendly; and for good reason! While we love our pups and pooches, not all people do. So keeping your four-legged friends away from pet-prohibited beaches is a must to ensure everyone can enjoy the sun completely worry-free.
If you’re looking to get out and about with your dog and take them for a swim this weekend, you’re in luck. With so many dog beaches on the Gold Coast, everyone can enjoy outdoor excitement and tail-wagging fun for hours. Some of our favourite dog beaches that you should definitely venture to include:
The Spit Dog Beach
Located on the Spit, just near Doug Jennings Park, The Spit Dog Beach offers a secluded area for you and your dog to soak up the sun all year round. Beloved by locals, this dog beach comes fully equipped with a dog wash facility to guarantee your dog has an amazing time, without bringing too much sand home with them.
Due to its location, your dogs can enjoy jumping through the waves as they play fetch, socialise with other dogs and roll around in the sand. The neighbourhood around is also renowned for being friendly to pooches, meaning they will make plenty of new friends during their trip. There are also many cafes nearby where you can relax after all the fun is over.
Pizzey Offleash Dog Area
While not technically a beach, the Pizzey Offleash Dog Area deserves a notable mention for all the fun it offers. This area is off-leash and the perfect location for dogs who love a walk or a swim. Head on a lovely forest walk before setting your dog free in the water to run about, splash and have the time of their lives.
If you’re up for a little puppy training, there’s also a small, fenced-off agility park where you can test their skills. Pack a picnic and make a whole day of it if you have an energetic dog that loves to run around for hours on end.
Palm Beach Dog Off-Leash Beach
Is it a trip to the Gold Coast without a stopover at Palm Beach? Now, how about a stopover to a Palm Beach dog beach? Now, that’s an essential must-visit.
This off-leash dog park is popular among locals and tourists for its clean atmosphere, calm waters and shallow tide. Choose the beachside part of the open area to allow your adventure-loving dog some fun in the ‘wilder’ waters. Or, alternatively, switch the lakeside area for calm, flat water, perfect for smaller and older dogs who still love to get wet.

Summers are a terrific time to put on a beach suit and hit the waters. No matter how intense the mid-day sun is, there’s always something to beat the heat. Unfortunately, you can’t say the same about your pets.
They can’t adapt to extremely hot and cold climes as well as humans can. Your dog could quickly develop heat exhaustion if they are left out on the burning pavement. Even if you take them out for some water splashing, they still need to be supervised.
In order to make the heat enjoyable for your furry pal, here are some thoughtful tips on how to keep your dog cool in the summers.
1. Keep Hydrating Them
Your elders may have often nagged you on the importance of hydration, so now it’s time to do the same with your dog. While most dogs are vulnerable to extreme heat, some breeds are in greater peril than others.
If your dog has thick, furry long hair, has a medical condition or is either too young or too old, then you need to be extra careful. Pugs, shih tzus, bulldogs – brachycephalic breeds— are more susceptible to dehydration. If your pet isn’t drinking enough water, keep more water bowls around them. And if you love being extravagant, keep a dog drinking fountain to attract your pet.
They may play with the water, but they will definitely be drinking more that way. When your dog returns after a run, it may be hard to make them drink water. It may be easier to cup some in your hand and help your pet gulp it down. Apart from hydration, the gesture will double the love between you two.
2. Never Leave Them in the Car
Don’t ever leave your dog in a locked car. Even when you think you’ll be returning after 5 minutes, humans can quickly succumb to forgetfulness. And knowing that vehicles and pavements are the quickest to burn up during summers, don’t test your pet’s limits.
Even if the car is spacey with the AC turned on, dogs can quickly suffocate and grow agitated in a locked, cramped vehicle. So don’t take any risks and keep your furry pal with you at all times.
3. Keep Your Home Cool
If your pooch will stay in the house in your absence, make sure your home is nice and cool. You may want to turn on the A.C or one or two fans to cool down the heat. Make sure the curtains are closed, as most of the heat seeps in from the windows. You can also use dog cooling mats or rugs to keep them extra cool.
4. Take Them Out for Some Beach Lovin’
If you’re wondering what to do with your dog on a hot day, then get him wet. Take your puppy out to the beach, with his favorite toys and make sure to have lots of fun. If the beach isn’t feasible, simply put up a small, shallow pool so that they can indulge in some splashing and waddling.
You can even add some ice cubes or ice packs to keep the pool chill. And, try to avoid keeping your pet in his kennel, as that can be suffocating and too hot. Trees can be much better for shade than doghouses.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Twin Share and Private during pet boarding?
Each of our five room options can be booked as either a Twin Share or a Private, so it’s still the same room, the option just depends on if your dog would like to have the room to them self or if they’d prefer to share that room with a friend. With dogs who do not live together at home, we will only board two dogs together at any one time, except under special circumstances, in which case you would be notified about the situation prior to boarding.
How do you match the dogs for Twin Share?
If you have a dog who thoroughly enjoys the company of another dog, the Twin Share option may be suitable. We match dogs in the Twin Share option according to size and temperament, so if you have a small, calm dog, your dog would be matched with another dog who is small, who would like to integrate but not be too over the top during play. If you have a large, playful dog, your dog would be matched to someone who wouldn’t mind playing the day away with your dog. There are endless combinations of pet traits.
Is there always a dog match available at your pet resort?
There are instances where you may book your dog into a Twin Share room, but we may not have a dog boarding with us during that time who is suitable to share the room with your dog (Eg. Dogs got alone but one was much more playful than the other). If this occurs, we will be in touch with you to let you know that we weren’t able to find a match. When dogs are matched up, sometimes the dates that their booking goes for does not align. Your dog may be here for seven days, and their initial match may only be here for the first three days. The introduction process begins again once their first match has left.
What is the introduction process for the dog boarding?
We are very particular about which dogs share with one another, and our introduction process can take up to 3 or 4 hours. It’s most certainly not something we take lightly as we must ensure that both guests will feel comfortable being with one another during their stay. If there are any signs of anti-social behaviour from either dog, the introduction progress is ceased immediately.
If your dog has never boarded with us before, it’s highly recommended to book them a Private room so that you know the room is readily available for them to have them self should they require it. It’s very easy for us to change to a Twin Share, but due to availability, it’s not always easy for us to do it the other way around. Please get in touch with us if you’re unsure about which option is best for your dog.
Why are vaccinations important in Boarding Kennels or Pet Resorts on the Gold Coast?
If you’re looking for cat or dog boarding on the Gold Coast, your pet will be required to have current vaccination records. A good dog hotel on the Gold Coast will always protect all its canine and feline guests by making sure they are all up-to-date on their shots and healthy. Puppies and kittens require three initial vaccinations when they’re very young and then annual booster vaccinations and check-ups for life. Our requirements are C5 in dogs, and F3 in cats, and these vaccinations need to be conducted within the last 12 months, but not within 10 days of the arrival date to our resort. Be sure to ask your vet if you have any questions about your pet’s full protection and contact our friendly team to find out more about the vaccination requirements.
